Was really great for kids to have lessons and indirectly great for everyone else in the room because they went out and learned how to be more mature as a musician and they brought that back to my classroom and then that spread.
Seven of my 8th graders in band made it into the highest level of ensemble for high school next year which was directly related to having lessons.
A big takeaway was an overall excitement all year about voice lessons. This opportunity encourages them and increases comfortability with their voice. At high school most took part in regional solo competition, and some went to State.
Most successful smoothest year ever. Bass players took off and built culture in their section. Cellos—making performance level leaps and building confidence reported.
All Music directors spoke passionately about individual student progress—improved skills
Amazing that Cindy Flores is now a Salem-Keizer music educator. Had her first music lessons under our program, trained to become an educator and now teaching the next generation of music students here. Has come full circle. Laura L
Have watched MLP become integral part of programs it serves with significant student improvement in performance skill and confidence. At McKay meeting, band director said MLP is a major factor in their success (1st in competitions). Bill
Have been amazed by magnitude of MLP. As a retired school principal, I know how impactful this level of care and attention to individual students is, and marvel at the generosity of Salem-Keizer community making this possible. I have seen what can happen when students are supported and begin to believe in their own potential. Laura P
Impressed hearing McKay percussion group, choir, orchestra, and band knowing MLP students made a difference! Good recital at Capital Manor by NSHS and McKay MLP students. More than one ‘blew us away’! Received note from friend I asked to donate. “Thank you for giving us a chance to contribute to such a worthwhile project!” Chuck😀
Joined MLP Board after retirement; already a supporter. Love kids and music; wanted to take BIG step! Learned more: attending concerts, year-end evaluations, taking photos in music classes. Loved absorbing atmosphere and wonderful interactions. Nothing dull about music students! Rachelle
What a joy at band middle school solo/ensemble competition when MLP flute, clarinet, and trombone teachers asked me to hear their students play solos and duets there. Impressive performances, good interaction with adjudicator(s) and great learning experience. Encouraging to see so many MLP students participating. Sandy
